Amazing

Life here is very, very full. Yesterday I started by delivering food to elderly people, did some renovation work, attempted a pastoral visit to the doctor but only talked to his wife and two boys who are the same age as my boys, did the staff devotional at the OVC, played volleyball with orphans, tried to run the chaos of Jesus Quest, taught teachers the basics of turning on a computer, shutting it down and creating, saving, and modifying a document, commissioned an african cross to be carved, had dinner and attempted to fairly distribute and organize some of the opportunities we have for today. So far today we have worked on the hippo house (a guest house - all the guest houses are named for animals here) and we had a total blast at a ceremony where we presented the computers for the school. They danced, drumed and sang for us which was just amazing. I got a copy of the speach made by the chairperson of the PTO that I hope to post later today. I am and have been filled with Joy yesterday and today and think you all must be praying. I can't believe we have been here less than 3 days. We are seeing, doing and experiencing more I think than many do in a long life. Time to run to lunch and fine tune a very revised Jesus Quest.

Hi all -
Everything sounds exciting, challenging, fun, tough, enriching and more. We hope everyone is getting sleep - maybe Elliot and Cindy especially. Did you find a contact case, Elliot? How is the doctor? Is everybody still healthy?
How great to have your computers so enthusiastically received - good work, Ben! What a priviledge to teach folks there something new and useful in world. Picturing 16 of you and 300 kids of all ages in the "revised" Jesus Quest... a test of your flexibility and reliance on one another and God!
Soak it all in and bring some of it back to us.
love from SL*D

I found Mwandi on Google Earth and I'm curious as to whether I've spotted the mission. It looks like there is a single paved road in town which ends at the river. There is a cluster of larger buildings on the right just as you reach the river. Is that the mission? It looks like there are not many cars in town.

Is there a market? Where is it? It looks like most of the town is a maze of paths among houses with bushes or something growing around them. Has there been time go to into town? It doesn't sound like it from your frenetic schedule!

We hope you found Jesus during your quest. Maybe having a crowd is a lot better than having no one take any interest? It sounds like quite a scene!

Keep the updates coming! Many of us are experiencing your trip vicariously through your posts (with no small amount of envy).

Love to all there from the Fort!
Doug

To All:

Remember it is how you respond to the opportunities presented in the "chaos" that you and FPC will ultimately be remembered. God is often present in just such times. . even half way around the world.

The blog is a great way to connect our congregation to your efforts on our behalf in Mwandi. Not being shy about making suggestions. . . here's one. Pictures of the locals connecting with some of the Mission team would be a wonderful way of strengthening that connection if that is possible given the connections currently available.

It is wonderful to hear that by listening to their request for computers, we have opened the door for God to do so much more after you depart. . .

Good is good all the time.
All the time, God is good.
